So, Brody has had some trouble listening lately. On Saturday, he was off to a pretty good start, so I thought that if he kept it up, I would take him to see Madagascar 3 at the movie theatre. Heath wasn't feeling well, so I thought it would be good to get the kids out of the house and let him rest for a while.
This was Madelyn's first trip to the movies. She did a great job sitting in her seat and watching the movie. I was a little worried that she would think it was too loud, or be a little intimidated by the whole situation, but she did great. She was a little hesitant to walk into the dark loud room without holding my hand (we got there right as the movie was starting), but she felt comfortable after that.
I knew Brody would have to get up and go potty, and about half-way through the movie, he did. Then, with about 20 minutes left in the movie, Madelyn tells me she pooped. And then I smelled it. I sat her on my lap hoping to mask the smell until the movie was over. After about 10 minutes of feeling the warmth on my lap, I decided I'd had enough...and Brody said he had to go potty, so we loaded up once again and headed to the bathroom. Madelyn wasn't lying about going poop...she FILLED the diaper, like she hasn't done since she was an infant. So I changed her while Brody went potty and used about half of my package of wipes. We walked out of the stall and I saw a bunch of kids...which could only mean one thing...we missed the end of the movie.
I told Brody that we missed the movie, and that's when the meltdown began. Full-out crying with tears and everything. I couldn't get out of the theater fast enough. And then, in the middle of sobbing, he said "our popcorn!" I'm not sure if he was more upset about the movie being over, or the half bag of popcorn we left at our seats. Either way, it was embarrassing!
So, I learned my lesson about taking 2 children, 4 and under to the movies. It was crazy and I won't do it alone again. But I did get a cute pic of Madelyn and I to remember her first trip to the theater!
