Rach!

About a month ago, I noticed that Rainy Day Books posted that Rachael Ray was coming to do a book signing. I knew I had to go, so I called Julie right away and we bought tickets. She was going to be here promoting her new cookbook that is totally dedicated to burgers.

I was a little disappointed because she didn't actually personally sign our books. They were all pre-signed and that was it. I was hoping for a good photo op and the chance to tell her how much she inspired me to cook. Her show is the first that I started to watch on Food Network, and I'm pretty sure I have a majority of her cookbooks. I guess she's too big. We saw Nicholas Sparks there a few years back and he did sign each book ahead of time, but also allowed us to get our books personalized if we wanted to (although we skipped that part).

Julie and I got there about and hour and a half before the event began, and got to sit in the 3rd row!

Rachael spoke for about 90 minutes and she was as cute as I expected. She is definitely smaller than I thought she would be, and laughs more than you see on TV. She's a gifted storyteller, and it was fun to see her off the record and more candid than you get to see her on TV. One thing did bother me though...she would start answering the interviewers questions before she was finished. This happened on EVERY question!

After the signing Blanc had slider samples for us since they are just around the corner. They also gave us coupons for free fries. Julie and I actually forgot to grab a coupon and it was too crowded to try to go back and get one, so we decided we should just go home. Then, we were half way through the parking garage and found a coupon on the ground...we decided that we were meant to get a beer and those fries. We actually ended up getting salads with our fries...they were delicious!
I got the Abita Purple Haze. It's from Louisiana and was raspberry flavored.

Julie tried the Strawberry. It was good, but too sweet for me. I like my raspberry better.

Our free fries...in a shopping cart!

My salad! It had butter lettuce (I'm a new fan) and pears and blue cheese...so yummy! Julie got a BLT salad, but I didn't take a pic.

It was a fun night out!
