Weekend Christmas Fun!

What is with 70 degrees in December? Despite all of my efforts to make it feel like Christmas, it won't really until the temperatures get back down to the normal range! This is just crazy!

Our weekend started on Friday night with family movie night at St. Michael's! It was a lot of fun until the kids got high on cookies, candy canes, hot cocoa and marshmallows, and we couldn't get them to sit still for the movie. So, we left with about 30 minutes of the movie left. Maybe next year? I didn't take a lot of pictures, but I wish that I would have had the video camera going when Madelyn saw Santa. We walked in, and they had a red carpet leading up to Santa to greet everyone! Madelyn wouldn't get any closer than 5 or 6 feet. She blurted out, "I WANT A BABY." She was so serious, and nervous, and wanted to make sure she got her order in, but she didn't want to have to get close to do it. I had to clarify with her later about what kind of baby she wanted, and she said a princess baby. Phew!
Brody with our little friend, Amelia!
Then, on Saturday I took both kids on Christmas 'dates". First, after ballet, I took Madelyn up to the Kansas City Museum to see the Fairy Princess. An old department store downtown had a Fairy Princess at Christmas instead of Santa. 25 years ago, the Kansas City Museum brought the tradition back. I'd heard it was a great thing for little girls, and it was. We had no line, and it was well worth the drive there and the price! Madelyn was a little nervous to see the princess and I couldn't get her to smile.
The princess asked her what her wish was, and she said a princess baby. Then they waved the wand and the trunk next to her opened and Madelyn could take a gift. She got a princess crown!

While we waited for our pictures to print, we did a few crafts and looked at the Christmas trees.

By the time we were done, she had warmed up a bit and wanted to try it again. Instead, she got a cookie and we took a walk around the block.

Later that afternoon, I took Brody on his 'date'. I took him on the Santa Express! It was a lot of fun, but just a little long. I thought it was 45 minutes each way, but it was an hour. That last half hour was a little rough for him. He was tired, bored and had a bit of a sugar high! They kept us pretty entertained with carolers, story tellers, cookies and hot cocoa and visiting with Santa, but there is only so much a 5 year old can handle!

So excited about his surprise! I didn't tell him what we were doing until we got there!

He got to sit on Santa's lap (time #2).

We got cookies and hot cocoa!

His only complaint was that our train car was green and he wanted to go on the red one...story of our lives these days!

And that's it for our Saturday...stay tuned for what we did on Sunday!
