Road Trip!

Last Saturday I woke the kids up before the crack of dawn so that we could hit the road and get to Chicago by lunch time. I had hoped that they would go right back to sleep in the car. That didn't happen. Oh well, they did really well. No fighting, crying or whining. And we only stopped 4 times at 10 minutes each stop to go potty! Not too bad if you ask me!

We took highway 36 through Missouri, and my ride looked like this for most of the trip. In fact, I think I passed maybe a dozen cars over the whole state.

Brody dozed for a little bit, but he was the only one.

We arrived at about 1:30 and had some lunch. The kids had so many snacks in the car, so they didn't really eat anything. After lunch I tried to put them down for a nap, but that was very unsuccessful, so we gave up and...

Went swimming at aunt Susie and uncle Mark's!

After swimming, we headed back to grandma and grandpas to have some sno cones! Grandpa picked up a sno cone maker for the kids a couple of months ago, and I don't know who was more excited to try it out, him or the kids!

I was happy to see this old girl...
And we finished our first day off with some Chicago pizza. Yum!

Getting the kids to bed that night was about as successful as getting them down for a nap. They ended up in the bed with me. Between the fireworks going on outside and the excitement of the day, they were wound up. So, I ended up going to bed with them around 9:00 and woke up many times to fireworks and Madelyn talking or turning or kicking. We all ended up getting some good sleep. Stay tuned for the rest of the trip!
