Chicago Part 2

We took it pretty easy on Sunday. We went out for Breakfast and then my mom and I put the kids down for a nap and we went out for manis and pedis! The nail place took over 3 hours. We missed a whole thunderstorm while we were in there. And Madelyn took a 4 hour nap! She needed it!

Then on Sunday evening my dad made ribs! The kids weren't crazy about them, but I liked them! Heath was disappointed that he missed out!
On Monday, we headed out on the train for down town! I made the mistake of thinking that Brody didn't need a stroller. I was so wrong. It was kind of a rough day. The high was like 104 or something and we walked a long way...

The first stop was Macy's on State Street to get grandma a new swim suit. They had a flag that hung down the middle of the store, from the top floor to the 1st floor. Pretty amazing!

Next we headed toward Navy Pier. We walked along the river walk, which was pretty cool! That's one thing that I have never done before.

We stopped and ate lunch at Billy Goats. Another Chicago thing that I had never done. (You'll notice a theme here...I planned a lot of things that we have never done despite the many trips we've made in my lifetime).

We rode the Navy Pier Farris Wheel! The kids are brave and had fun!

The next stop to escape the heat was the Children's Museum at Navy Pier. They had a special Circus exhibit that the kids enjoyed!

After the Children's Museum we were beat. We had planned to walk down Michigan Avenue, but we were on the lower roads and couldn't get up there easily with the stroller, and Brody's little legs were about to fall off, so we decided to just head straight for the train. Along the way, while walking in rush hour traffic, my mom saw her favorite restaurant, Italian Village. She asked if I wanted to stop, I could tell she wanted to. So we did. We took the sweaty, cranky kids to the white table cloth restaurant. They sat us in an enclosed booth and gave the kids some crayons and kids menus. They actually were pretty well behaved. We did scare off one couple that was sat on the other side of the wall (they claimed that they didn't want to sit by the bathroom, but I know it was probably the kids). The food was delicious, and we probably could have split one entree between the 4 of us! We brought a lot of food home.

On Tuesday, we went and did some shopping! One of the things on my itinerary was to go to Ikea. I love that place and there is one not far from my parent's house. We spent about an hour there before stopping to eat lunch at their food court. My mom and I had the Swedish meatballs and they were so good. After that, we had quite a bit of time to kill before going to pick up Heath at the airport, so we headed across the street to Mejer. We had never been there, so we decided to check it out. We wanted to get some sand toys for the kids to bring to the beach and I wanted another stroller to use for the remainder of the trip.  After leaving there we headed off to an outdoor shopping area to wait for my handy "Just Landed" app to tell me we had to leave for the airport. We hoped that the kids would nap in the strollers, but that didn't happen.

After picking Heath up, we met my dad for dinner at White Fence Farm. My mom has wanted to go here for a while, so we finally made it. It was really good, and the atmoshpere was fun.

Stay tuned tomorrow for part 3!
