Biting update

You may remember that we had a little bit of a problem with Madelyn biting. The good news is that it actually hasn't really become a full-blown problem.

I kept her out of the church nursery since the incident. I kept her out hoping that she would forget about it, but she didn't. When I told her she was coming with me she said, "no bite the baby?". Since it hasn't become a problem outside of our home, I decided to give it a try last weekend because I was volunteering. She made it through without biting anyone! Yay!

Since she didn't forget, I wanted to make a big deal about her not biting, so I brought her to Dunkin' Donuts. She picked out her donut. I had planned to take them home, but she wanted to eat it there, so we did. I made sure she understood that she got the donut for not biting and being nice to her friends. I think she gets it, but I guess time will tell.

I feel pretty comfortable that she will not do it anymore, so I plan to leave her this weekend. My friend is working, so I'm going to make sure that she pays close attention to her. That's when it happens...when your back is turned. So I think that by having someone on her at all times may help to avoid the behavior. And, if she does do it, I'll have her call me and we'll leave.

2 year olds are hard. I'm sure that there will be more ages down the road that will be challenging, but with both kids, 2 has proven to be the most difficult so far. You can't yet reason with them, they are just figuring out consequences and you have to be consistent with them, which is pretty difficult when we can't be with them all day. 98% of the time, Madelyn is the sweetest little girl, but when she's ornery, she's ornery!
