Feeling lost without technology

It's amazing how much things have changed over the past 10 years or so. It started out with the cell phone. I got my first one about 13 years ago when I started driving, but I never felt lost if I left it at home. After all, I never talked and drove, we didn't text or have email on our phones, and facebook was still in the future. I never even imagined have the Internet with me at all times. And, we had to stay under our minutes, so there was no talking just to talk like we do now. Now, I leave the house without my cell phone, and I feel like I left my brain! Most of the time I will sacrifice being a few minutes late to go back and get my cell phone.

When I workout, I wear a heart rate monitor to make sure I'm staying within my target zone, but also to check to see how many calories I burn during my workout. I never used to have one, and I had no idea how addicted I would be to keeping track of what's going on. I even wear it when we walk around the neighborhood (hello! extra calories to eat). Well, I have forgotten to wear the watch twice since I've been back at Jazzercise. Let me tell you, I just feel off for the whole hour. I feel like the workout doesn't count. Isn't that weird? It's just crazy how quickly we can get hooked on technology!

With that being said, the heart rate monitor has been a great tool for me to manage my calories in and out. I hit the 5 lb mark when I weighed in last Wednesday. Yay! I cheated and weighed myself this morning...still the same. My official weigh in day is Wednesday, so of course I'm hoping for another lb by then. I've been trying to stay between 1000 and 1200 net calories a day, and it seems to be working for me to lose the 1 lb a week that I've been going for. The great thing about getting up and working out everyday is that I get that extra 500-600 calories to eat! I never feel deprived and actually usually have an extra 300 or so calories left at the end of the day. Sometimes I use that to have some ice cream, other times I just let it go and put it towards the weight loss. It's really not healthy to be taking in less than 1000 net, so I always try to make sure I'm above that.

I have a Garmin FR60 in lilac. The only gripe that I have about it is that I can't see how many calories I've burned so far. This usually isn't an issue when I'm at Jazzercise, but when we're on a walk I'd like to know when it's ok to go home, or when I want to add a little more time. I know that the Polar monitor that a lot of people use shows the calories burned in real time.

I wonder what my next gadget will be...maybe one of these? Of course, Tanita, I'd be happy to test and review a BC-1000 if you need me to!

Linking up with Ashley again this week.

That is exactly why I LOVE running on a treadmill {& I can squeeze my workout in during my son's nap}. I love seeing how far I've ran & how many calories I burned..
I've just started running a few weeks ago so I don't burn too many calories yet, but the distance is my biggest accomplishment!
Good Luck with your weigh-in tomorrow, I tried counting calories & only eating 1300 a day..it didn't work..i love food too much
