I did talk Heath into redoing the dining room walls! I never really finished decorating the dining room. When we moved in, I picked out a fun color palate for the walls, and I chose green for the dining room. I loved it and saw a lot of potential. But, we had babies, and got busy and ignored the dining room. We started off with my mom and dad's hand me down kitchen table, which got booted as soon as Brody and his toys came along. For a while, the dining room served as a play room. It was a perfect location off the living room and kitchen for Brody to play. Then we quickly outgrew our tiny eat in kitchen, and Brody's toys became too much for our tiny dining room! Now, we actually eat in our dining room. I think that spending all of the time that we do in there has caused me to get a little tired of the green. It's just too much.
I always thought that it would look really nice if we added some wainscoting below the existing chair rail. I found a really easy tutorial online and we were all set. Then, we were at Lowe's a couple weeks ago and decided to stroll down their molding aisle to see what they had. It turns out that they actually sell the molding already in rectangles...all you have to do is nail it into the wall and paint. Super easy! It isn't exactly the look I was going for, but I think it will look really nice. I'm hoping that it will add a wow factor when we go to sell. It seems like all the new homes have it.

So, I chose a gray for the walls. I wanted something neutral without going beige like the other parts of the house. Gray is the new beige, I think! It blends really well with our blue living room and looks great against the white trim. The gray is done, now we're just waiting for the paint to cure so that we can tape it off and paint the bottom. We are going to go ahead and paint it with the same enamel that we used for our trim. I can't wait for it to be done! I gave Heath a deadline of Madelyn's birthday party on February 12th...if all goes well, we'll be finishing it up next weekend.
To hold you over until I can post a big reveal, here are some photos to show the progression of our dining room:
