Visiting Santa

**warning...picture heavy post!**

On Friday morning, we had no interest in joining in the craziness of Black Friday! Instead, we got up early and hopped on the train to go downtown to visit Santa and have lunch at the Walnut Room at Macy's (formerly Marshall Fields) on State Street. Us and a million other people! We got up with plenty of time, but we almost missed our train! We pulled in and it was already there. We ran up and got on. Then, we were a station away from New Lenox, and Heath realized he left his Blackberry in the car. He needed to be available for work. So he hopped off, went back to New Lenox and met us downtown. The good thing about being at the end of the track is that he didn't have to waste too much time waiting for the train to go back.

Brody loves going to Grandma's because he gets to ride the choo choo!

Madelyn enjoyed the train ride too, but she got a little antsy towards the end. See that cute flower bow in her hair? I bought it to go with her Christmas dress (it matches perfectly) and she dropped it somewhere in Macy's. Oh well, off to find a new one!

Brody had fun chasing pigeons at the train station!

We made a quick stop at Duncan Donuts for some coffee and donuts. Good thing we did, because when we got to Macy's to put our name in for lunch, they told us we couldn't be seated until 2:00! It wasn't that big of a deal though because the store offers plenty to look at (it's like 8 or 9 floors) and it gave us plenty of time to visit Santa!

Brody hogging the donut holes!

We waited about 1 hour to see Santa, which wasn't that bad because they had a lot of stuff to do and look at along the way. But that didn't mean that Brody didn't get bored!

Not really sure what he was doing here, but it had "I'm so bored" written all over it!

Donating some money to Make a Wish.

Seeing Santa went exactly as I thought it would...a couple days leading up to it, I talked to Madelyn about seeing Santa. I would ask her if she was going to go see him and she would say yes. Then when I asked if she was going to sit on his lap she said no. We tried, but she wanted nothing to do with it! I loved the way they had it set up. They had Santa back behind some curtains, so it was a very quiet and private setting.

I love this photo...Heath did a great job capturing exactly what happened:
Santa's reaching for her to come back, she's running away in fear and Brody's just standing back watching!
I also caught the whole thing on video:

We did manage to get a picture of the kids together in their outfits after Santa since we couldn't get them both on Santa's lap.

After seeing Santa, we walked around the store for a little bit while waiting for our buzzer to go off. We got past the 2:00 mark, so Heath went up to see how much longer and they said that they tried to buzz us...but we never got it. Oh well, we got seated under the big Christmas tree and had lunch. I wasn't crazy about what I ordered, but the experience was fun.

The tree...so pretty!

Madelyn colored for  a few minutes while we waited for our food.

And Brody read some books.

Then the bread came and Madelyn was in heaven!

Heath participated in the Popeye face!

Me and my mom

Me, Julie and our mom with our drinks...the Poinsettia! Sparkling wine with cranberry juice...delish!

They had fairy princesses floating around collecting donations for Make a Wish. Madelyn was mesmerized!

Brody was in awe as well!

She offered everyone a wish. Robby didn't miss out!

Mommy and Madsy!

The kids with Grandma. Brody is too into Emily's iPhone to look at the camera...
After Macy's we headed a block away to the Christkindlmarket. It was SO packed. We went into one tent and then that was it. It was not the kind of place that you can easily get around with a stroller...especially with our monster.

Madelyn all bundled up! We were actually so lucky. The weather was in the 50s!

This little guy was exhausted. He fell asleep sitting straight up in the stroller.

Robby and Madelyn. So sweet.

Family pic! Only one we took all weekend!
We had a great time. Heath and I stayed down there to celebrate our anniversary...more on that later!
