Valentine's Day 2012

Ok...so maybe I'm a little bit of an overachiever as my friend, Jen would say. But I had fun with Valentine's Day this year. Valentine's has always been one of my favorite holidays. I have always been more of a Valentine's fan than Halloween, 4th of July or St. Patrick's Day. I think it has to do with the fact that my birthday falls less than a week before and I had many Valentine's Day themed parties.

Heath and I haven't really celebrated Valentine's much...we don't exchange gifts, and we haven't gone out alone for Valentine's since before we had kids. It never really bothered me until this year for some reason. We both felt the same way, so we decided that next year we will celebrate! If nothing else, it's an excuse to go out on a date, which has become a rare occasion these days. We always exchange cards and I did get flowers from Brody and Heath on Sunday, but needless to say, this year it was all about the kids!

I went to Brody's Valentine's party at school! It's always fun to see him in his classroom. I'm going to cherish the times that he feels proud to have his own mom there. I know that it won't always be that way.

Cute snacks one of the moms made. The nut safer policy makes it difficult to be too creative, but I think she did a good job!

And here is Brody's Valentine! It's sort of an inside joke...Brody's had some trouble learning that we can't hug everyone, and when hugs are appropriate, so I thought this would be fun!

We couldn't decide what to do for dinner and finally decided on heart shaped pizza! Was going to order it from Papa John's, but we thought it might be more fun for the kids if we made it at home. I love how they turned out! We even went so far to include heart shaped pepperonis...I know, overachiever!

After dinner, I let the kids eat part of their Valentines from me and Heath. Madelyn tackled about half of that giant marshmallow cupcake and Brody barely made a dent in his baseball sucker. Luckily, they had no trouble going to sleep!

Tonight we are going to have a low-key birthday celebration for Madelyn. I made a cake...so this will be the 3rd time she blows out candles. Overkill? Maybe, but she really likes it, and I think you should blow out candles on your actual birthday!
