As much as I missed being around my family over Christmas, there is nothing like being at home when you have little kids in the house. It's also nice to not have to split the holiday. During high school and college, my mom always had dinner at night so we could spend lunch time with Heath's family. We also ended up splitting Christmas Eve up in some way, too. My parents have lived out of town since before Brody was born, so I'm not sure how we would work it if they were here. The first Christmas they were away, Brody was only 2 months old and they came to Kansas. The next year we went to Chicago. Then, the next year we went after Christmas to Chicago. Last year they came about a week after Christmas. Due to my mom's job, they'll always have to come either before or after Christmas because she'll always have to work either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I decided after travelling to Chicago for Brody's 2nd Christmas that we would always spend it at home. It's a lot of work to load up 2 kids, all the stuff and all the gifts...not to mention load it all up and bring it home!
This year, we spent both Christmas Eve and Christmas day at Dave and Melody's. Before dinner she had a craft for us to do! We decorated name tags for our stockings! It was the perfect craft for the kids, and Heath seemed to have a good time, too!

Madelyn kept taking the stickers and trying to put them on the real tree when we told her to put them on her tree. We meant the foam tree on her card!
She made Cornish Hens for dinner and I made my favorite Paula Deen twice-baked potato casserole. It is sooo good, but Heath said he could taste the sour cream...what he was tasting was the garlic, but claimed it was sour cream. He's missing out!

Madelyn managed to get a piece of bread for each utensil...so silly!
After dinner we exchanged gifts!

We had this blanket made for Melody through the Costco Photo Center! I made the collage in Photoshop and then uploaded it. It arrived on the 23rd, just in time! We were so impressed with the quality (and the price). Totally recommend going through them! All photos were taken by Amy Biggerstaff.
After gifts we moved back to the kitchen for dessert! I made a really yummy chocolate peppermint cream pie...I haven't stopped thinking about it since Christmas Eve...seriously! I'll share the recipe soon.

Here is the best shot I could get of Madelyn's stinker eyes. She's becoming quite the character!

We were so glad to have been able to celebrate Christmas with Nicholas and Garrett since they were with their dad on Christmas. Such a fun day! Stay tuned for Christmas Eve night!
