Madelyn went to her 15 month check up on Thursday. She is doing great! She is tall and skinny! She is 22.6 lbs (45%) and 31.5 inches tall (80%)! She's been on the tall and skinny route for a while now, but she keeps getting taller! She's wearing 24 months & 2T clothes! Brody was never this far ahead...he has always been really true to the size. In fact, this summer he's wearing his 3T clothes from last year! Only one size up from her. She doesn't necessarily look tall and skinny, she looks like an average baby. She's doing really well developmentally, too. Each time we go to the doctor, we fill out a questionnaire to track their development. After you answer 3 questions "no" you stop. I filled out the entire form today and only answered 2 "no"! The doctor said she is in 2 year territory! That's my girl!!! We knew she was advanced way back when she was just 2 months old and putting her toes in her mouth...our Parents as Teachers lady told us that she was intellectually advanced.
She says more and more words every day...just today I heard her say some new ones: door, bear and bird. Some other words she says regularly are:
momma
dada
Bubba (Brody)
light
baby
ball
hi
bye bye
all done
There are others, but those are the most common right now.
She is the sweetest baby I've ever met. She loves to hug, give kisses, she's very warm with everyone she meets. She loves her "bubba"! She doesn't like when he's not around. If he's outside playing, she is right at the window watching him. If he's not home, she's asking about him. She loves to boogie! The minute she hears music, she starts to sway and bounce to the music. She is our little love bug and I can't remember much about life before she was in it! All I wish is that I could be with her for more than 3 hours a day :(.
I did have one issue that I discussed with the doctor. Madelyn has an attached upper lip frenulum.
Here is a cell phone pic...not the best quality, but you get the idea.
I noticed it when I realized that her top teeth don't show below her lip even though the top 4 are all grown in. I lifted her lip and noticed that it was attached all the way to the bottom of her gum. I had done a lot of reading on the internet, and everyone has differing opinions on when to do something about it. Our pediatrician told us to wait until she is older- done with braces- to do anything about it. She will probably go through most of her early years with a gap between the two teeth. He said that if our dentist suggests that we do something about it now, we need to go see a gum specialist. I scheduled her first dental appointment at the same time as Brody's next appointment in August. Our doctor has a patient who's mother is a gum specialist. She happened to be in this week, and he brought it up to her again. She said that we shouldn't do anything about it now. She also told him to let us know that tearing the frenulum is the most common mouth injury for children, so it may tear on it's own. If that happens, it could be very traumatic for everyone because there will be a lot of bleeding. I read that some doctors and dentists prefer for it to tear on it's own. We'll see what happens! I'm not getting myself too excited about it. And just preparing myself for the fact that Madelyn is going to need braces. The skin is really thick between those front teeth.
Speaking of teeth...she is cutting all 4 molars at once! Lovely! I guess it's best to get them all knocked out at once. That explains the whining we've been dealing with!

piper has the attached frenulum as well, and quite the gap between her teeth! the dentist i work for said it's best to leave it attached as well, and space is a good thing! it leaves room for growth and movement. she is so cute by the way, hopefully they will get to play a little when we are back in town this summer!
